Saleem “Sam” Carter, 97, of Lawrence passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 24, 2017. He was born and raised in Lawrence and was a graduate of Lawrence High School, class of 1937.
He worked in the local mills before serving in the U. S. Army Air Force in Australia and New Guinea. After the service, he went to work for General Tire, Bolta Products Division, where he worked for 28 years before retiring.
Sam was active in sports and was affiliated with the Panthers A.C. Football team. He helped form the Across the Spicket Old Gang Dinner Dances and served as secretary as well. Sam was a long-time member of both the Lawrence Lodge # 65 BPO Elks and the Arlington Club. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Melkite Church in Lawrence.
Sam is survived by his nephew, Roger Tremblay and his wife Kim; nieces, Paula Tremblay, Diane Ciardello and her husband Thomas, Susan Palermo, Joanne Paolino and her husband Joe, Donna Morin and her husband Roger; nephews, Steve Anjoorian, David, Billy, and Jimmy Carter; and many great-nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to memorial visiting hours on Friday, June 16, 2017 from 10 am to 12 pm at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. His funeral services will commence at the conclusion of visiting hours at 12 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services at United Lebanese Cemetery, Lawrence.
