Pastor Joseph Stringer, 87, of Methuen passed away Friday, September 15, 2017 at Lawrence General Hospital. He was born in Fall River, MA and was the son of the late Joseph and Mildred (Leach) Stringer.
Pastor Stringer was a graduate of Thibodeau Business College and worked at the Fall River Gas Company. In 1952, he followed God’s calling and became a pastor. He pastored churches in PA, Block Island, RI, and Lawrence. In 1964, he founded the Fellowship Bible Church in North Andover. In 1978, Fellowship Christian Academy was opened and quickly expanded from K4-Grade 12. Having outgrown their space in North Andover, Fellowship Bible Church moved to Methuen in 1995. Pastor Stringer also taught and trained many pastors in the New England area, who in turn founded their own churches.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Lorraine (Taylor) Stringer; his daughter and her family, Cynthia Berube and her husband Douglas of Methuen; son, Jason Berube, his wife Kristin and their children, Ethan, Logan, and Corin of Hampstead, NH; son, Douglas Berube, his wife Miranda, and their son, Montana of CA; daughter, Crystal Ortlieb and her husband Michael, and their children, Jayce, Reagan, Landon, and Damien of Dover, NH and their daughter, Lauryn, of TX, his other daughter, Cheryl Stone and her husband Peter of North Andover, their daughter, Jennifer Stone-Grimaldi, her husband Jeremy and their son, Eli of Hudson, NH.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 22, 2017 at the Fellowship Bible Church, 1 Fellowship Way, Methuen. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Andover.
