Jennie M. (LaPira) Herbert, 87, of Salem, NH passed away Monday, December 4, 2017 surrounded by her family at Mary Immaculate Nursing Home. Born in Lawrence, she was the daughter of the late Paolo and Francesca (Cataldo) LaPira.
Raised and educated in Lawrence, Jennie and was a graduate of Lawrence High School, class of 1947. She worked at Western Electric and Lucent Technologies and was a Pioneer. She was very proud of her Italian heritage. She loved to be with her family, Sunday dinners, and trips to Italy as well as Florida.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of sixty-nine years, Philip “Bubba” Herbert.
She is survived by her children, Paul P. Herbert of Andover, Philip D. Herbert, III and his wife Mary Ellen of Derry, NH, Frances Moriarty and her husband William, Jr. of Lawrence, Janice Mell and her husband Gary of Haverhill, and Patricia Melo and her husband Wally, of Salem, NH; her ten cherished grandchildren, William Moriarty, III and his wife Lydia, Joy Moriarty, Jillian Herbert, Adam Herbert and his wife Jackie, Christopher Herbert and his wife Lauren, Lee Herbert, Jennie Afonso and her husband Richie, Emily Melo, Allyson Melo, and Nicholas Melo. She also leaves eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visiting hours on Friday, December 8, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. Her funeral mass will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 35 Essex St., Lawrence. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Watertown, MA or alz.org.
