Tribute

Vincent “Vinny” Berthiaume of Plaistow, NH, formerly of Lawrence, MA, died peacefully November 6, 2019 surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born June 5, 1942, he was raised in Lawrence, MA. He was the son of the late Clement and Aldona Berthiaume. He is survived by sisters, Gladys (Don) Dane and Della (Les) McDaniel, and was predeceased by brothers, Eldon (Corinne) and Clement “Lefty” (Claire), and sister, Eileen (Al) Gibeau.
   
He leaves his beloved wife of 56 years, Janet (Sirois), his children, Michelle and husband Dcn. Leland Fastnacht of Salem, NH, Lynne and husband Bo Durso of Salem, NH, and David and wife Erica Berthiaume of Portland, CT. He was a very proud Pépé to Ryan Durso and his girlfriend Carolyn Petrishen, Kailyn (Fastnacht) and Leo Tabayoyong, Chelsea (Durso) and Ian Davis, Kurt Fastnacht and fiancée Julie Gorman, Alyssa Fastnacht, Nicole Fastnacht and boyfriend Chris Mason, Grace Berthiaume, and Julia Berthiaume. He leaves behind many in-laws, nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends, all of whom were special to him. He will also be missed by his sweet dog, Ella.

He graduated from Central Catholic before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. After an honorable discharge, he began a 37-year career at Raytheon while earning a B.S. degree from Fitchburg State College. He volunteered with Hospice and the Samaritans. He enjoyed active involvement in the Saint Basil’s Cursillo Community as well as his parishes of Sacred Heart in Lawrence, MA and Our Lady of Good Counsel in Methuen, MA. One of his greatest joys was performing and directing the All I Have Done For You passion play for 30 years. In 2010, he was the recipient of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Award by the Archdiocese of Boston for service to parish youth.

He enjoyed Saturday morning breakfasts, watching old movies, telling jokes and spending summers on Prince Edward Island and at ‘the Camp’ on Cobbett’s Pond. Vinny was a man of great faith and great humor who loved and cherished time spent with friends and family, but it was his role as Pépé that brought him his greatest joys. His love will live on in the hearts of all he touched.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, November 10, 2019 from 3:00-7:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. His funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 11, 2019 at Our Lady of Good Counsel / St. Theresa Church, 22 Plymouth Street in Methuen. Burial services will be private. Attendees may meet at the church or the funeral home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Our Lady of Good Council Parish, Methuen, MA or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
