Born and raised in Grand Rapids, MI, Tom served in the US Army for two years. After transferring from Aquinas College, he graduated from Western Michigan University and accepted his first teaching position in Flint, MI. His love for travel led him to the Department of Defence Dependent School System overseas. He met and married the love of his life, Lucia, while teaching in Japan. After a few years of living in the Far East, they taught in Germany, and then in Italy, where their son Mark was born. They returned to the United States in 1966 and settled in Easton, MA. Soon after, their daughter Michele was born.

Tom was a very kind, generous, and easy-going man. He had a great appreciation for music in general, jazz in particular. He loved Mardi Gras and the Big Easy. He was a passionate sports fan, loved football, and enjoyed playing golf. He was a family-oriented man and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He obtained a master’s degree in mathematics from Boston College while working at Brockton Public schools. He had a passion for education and was known to be an amazing teacher.

Along with his parents, Tom was pre-deceased by his brother, Richard Pins.
