Thomas M. Busta, Sr., 95, of Andover, MA, passed away peacefully May 1, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Methuen, MA, to the late Louis and Agnes Busta. He was raised and educated in Methuen and was a graduate of Methuen High School. Tom enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served his country at the Battle of Iwo Jima during World War II.
After he returned from war, Tom opened his own bar, The Fairview Club, in Methuen. On his trips to get ice for the bar from the Lawrence Ice Co., he met Grace, a beautiful woman who worked there, and they soon fell in love and were married for sixty-one years. Tom was a hardworking man who held several jobs at the same time, working in a shoe factory in Haverhill, MA and eventually opening his own landscaping business in 1961, Dana Landscaping Co. A family-run business, he took pride in his accomplishments and the business is still operated by his son, Tom, and his grandson, Tom, III.
To relax, Tom enjoyed skiing Wildcat Mountain with his wife and family as well as spending time in the North Conway area. He took many trips with his family in their travel trailer during their summer vacations. An avid railroad enthusiast, Tom had a railroad in his garden as well as one indoors. He was especially proud of the Dept. 56 houses that were a large part of his collection.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Grace; his sons, Thomas Busta, Jr. and his wife Ginny of Andover and Brian Busta of San Francisco, CA; his daughter, Brenda Busta and her spouse Kathleen Sachetti of Methuen; grandchildren, Kara Voss and her husband Mark, and Thomas Busta, III and his fiancé Marissa; and his great-grandchildren, Katherine and Nathan Voss.
Tom was pre-deceased by all of his siblings, Frank, Walter, John, Martin, and Sophie Busta, Mary and Stella Hall, and Anna Damon.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom’s memory may be made to the Lowell Veterans Association, 130 Marshall Rd., Lowell, MA 01852.
