Sydney J. Field
October 27, 1931 ~ December 26, 2018 (age 87) 87 Years Old
Sydney J. Field, 87, retired Raytheon industrial engineer, passed away December 26, 2018 at Holy Family Hospital. Born in Bedford, Quebec, Canada on October 27, 1931, he was the son of the late Harry R. and Alice (Charron) Field.
Sydney was educated in Bedford, Quebec, Canada, Manchester, NH, Lowell Technical Institute, Boston State College, and Fitchburg State College.
He was a resident of Manchester, NH until 1954 and then moved to Methuen where he lived for 64 years. He proudly served our country in the US Army Aviation School during the Korean War from 1952-1954 and was honorably discharged. Sydney was a toolmaker at Raytheon and then worked for Avco in Wilmington for 12 years as a senior experimental technician. He then returned to work at Raytheon in Andover as an industrial engineer on the Hawk and Patriot missiles until he retired in 1993.
Sydney loved the game of golf throughout his lifetime and even taught his son Dale to play. He also enjoyed fishing and was a member of the Hawk Flying Club for many years. Most of all, Sid was a good, humble, selfless man who loved his God and lived his life accordingly.
He was predeceased by his brothers, David and Harry Field.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen M. (Fox) Field; son, Dale Field and his wife Theresa; grandchildren, Nathan and Sara Field; sister-in-law, Ruth Field; brother-in-law, Charles Fox and his wife Judy; many nieces and nephews and his former wife, Rita (Gaumond) Field.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, December 30, 2018 from 3:00-6:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St. Methuen. His funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 31, 2018 at St. Patrick’s Church, 118 South Broadway, Lawrence. Private entombment will be in St. Mary’s Mausoleum, Lawrence. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Food for the Poor at www.foodforthepoor.org.
