STEPHEN WENTWORTH WIGHT 12/20/37-12/7/22
Stephen Wentworth Wight, Esq., 84, passed away peacefully at his home in Methuen on December 7, 2022.
Born and raised in Somersworth, NH, Steve graduated from Mount Hermon School in western Massachusetts where he was a standout athlete. He received a bachelor's degree from Boston University and was a member of the varsity football team and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Steve began his professional career in the insurance industry while simultaneously pursuing a law degree from Suffolk University. He went on to practice law in the Merrimack Valley for over five decades.
Steve leaves behind his best friend and wife of 50 years, Noreen (Moran) Wight. He is also survived by his son, Stephen Wight, Jr. and his wife Carolyn of Tiverton, RI; his son, David Wight of Newport, RI; and his daughter, Lisa Williams and her husband Clarkson of Andover, MA. Steve was fortunate to have six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Those who knew Steve would agree that in addition to being a man of big stature, he had an even bigger heart. In contrast to his professional life, which required oration in the courtroom on behalf of his clients, in his personal life he didn't typically dominate the conversation. However, his family and friends knew well that he spoke with a resounding voice full of sincerity, kindness, and sharp observations with the occasional booming laugh.
Steve and Noreen shared a love of world travel and were privileged to experience many adventures across the globe. Some of their most memorable trips were to Antarctica, Italy, Egypt and South Africa.
When not working or traveling, Steve was an avid fan of Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox and the Patriots. His dedication was evident in his abundant collection of related memorabilia - referred to by his loved ones as the "sports museum." Also an avid reader, he particularly enjoyed legal thrillers and accounts of U.S. history.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances of Steve's life be made via donations to The Joslin Diabetes Center http://www.joslin.org.
Relatives and friends are warmly welcome to attend a visiting period on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, from 11:00 am until noon at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen, MA. A funeral service will follow in the chapel.
