Stephen V. Traverso, 89, of Methuen passed away peacefully Sunday, February 18, 2018 at his home with his loving family by his side. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late James and Rose (Palece) Traverso.
Steve was an infectious man who could light up a room just by walking in. His smile was full and his laugh was contagious. In his presence you could feel the abundance of love he had for life and his family. He loved a good joke and to make people feel their best. Steve always had the right thing to say or do even during the most difficult of times.
Steve was educated in Brooklyn, NY until his early teen years when he and his family came to Lawrence, MA for better work opportunities. He was a graduate of Lawrence High School, worked in the Pacific Mills, and Mr. Traverso served with the U.S. Army. He later opened and operated his own business distributing bread from Middle East Bakery to local grocery stores. Steve took pride in his heritage and was a member of the Sons of Italy, as well as the Italian Brotherhood. Steve has left a legacy of all legacies, a true story of a lifetime and will be truly missed by all who knew him. He will continue to live on in all the memories, love, and joy he has imprinted on us.
He was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Angelo and Natalie Traverso.
Mr. Traverso is survived by his loving wife of forty years, Donna (Voisine) Traverso; his children, Stephen and his wife, Shauna of Methuen, Jennifer Traverso-Crow and her husband, Jonathan of Methuen, Debra Hewson and her husband, William of Andover, Rosemarie Traverso-Mulligan and her husband, Sean of Methuen, Stephanie Traverso and her husband, Eric Moreau of Methuen and James Traverso and his girlfriend, Nicole Lariviere of Methuen; his grandchildren, Stephen, Skylar, Bella, Jayden, Natalia, Luciana, Mason, Vander, Jonathan, William, Ariana, and Logan. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, February 22, 2018 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. His funeral mass will be at 10:00 am on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 35 Essex St., Lawrence. Burial will be at Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
