Sop Kim
December 4, 1942 ~ March 22, 2022 (age 79) 79 Years Old
Sop Kim, 79, of Salem, NH, passed away on March 22, 2022, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Born on December 4, 1942, he was the son of the late Hung San Kim and Shin Kwon Won. He is survived by his loving wife, Yun Kung Kim.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather Sop worked tirelessly to provide for his family. A man who arrived from Korea in 1969 with a few dollars in his pocket and within a decade had made his store a mecca for a community with an almost religious devotion to Adidas Top Tens. He named his store, Alpha & Omega, where all of his customer knew and loved him. It became his mission to give back to the community that had supported him and his family. He said yes to just about everybody who asked for his help. Since 1977, the store has donated thousands of pairs of sneakers and thousands of clothing items to local Roxbury and Boston charities helping folks in the neighborhood and beyond. One of the few rewards that he received recently was Volunteer of the Year given by Roxbury Main Streets.
A selfless, loving, generous soul, Sop was a quiet leader who had a tremendous faith in God. He was a founding member in multiple churches that were opened in the area he lived. He was not only the patriarch of his family, but of the community as well.
In addition to his wife, Sop is survived by his children, Kathleen Sum Kim of Boston, Karen Kim Choi and her husband Samuel of New York City, and Mosae Kim and his wife Inok of Medford; his sister, Kum Jae Park and her husband Han Chun Park of Queens, NY; his six grandchildren, Kayla, Olivia, Stella, Emilia, Sara and Irene; his granddog, Mina; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Kim lived a full and rich life and did much to support his community. While people may want to honor him with flowers or gifts in his name, he requested that folks refrain from sending gifts or donations in his honor.
The family kindly requests that all visitors attending the services wear a mask.
