Welcome to the memorial page for

Sarkis Almoian

November 1, 1923 ~ January 8, 2018 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Sarkis Almoian, 94, of North Andover passed away Monday, January 8, 2018.  He was born in Lawrence and was the son of the late John and Rose (Harootunian) Almoian.

Sarkis was raised and educated in Lawrence.  He was a graduate of Lawrence High School and the University of Lowell.  For a majority of his life, he was a property owner in Lawrence, and in his later years he was a tax accountant and worked for Henry Grillo & Company in Andover.  Sarkis served in the US Navy and was a veteran of WWII.

Growing up on Jackson Street in Lawrence, as part of the "Lower End Gang," Sam was a popular figure to all. You could always find him walking down Broadway and Essex Street popping in and out of the bars and local establishments and renewing friendships with all whom he knew. Sarkis, or Sam as his friends and family know him, was the family patriarch. Although he never married, Sam was a devoted family man. All his nieces and nephews regarded Uncle Sam as their second father and he regarded them as his own children. When there was an important decision to be made, Uncle Sam was always involved. He wouldn't miss a family birthday or celebration and he would always bring the bread from Papi's. He will be truly missed by his family and remaining dear friends.

He is survived by his sister, Lillian Stanley of Andover; brother-in-law, Donald Stanley; and his nieces and nephews, Donald D. Stanley, Cathy McMullen, Tim, William, and Christine Nolan.

Sarkis was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Nolan; brother-in-law, Donald Nolan; and his nephew, John Stanley.

At the request of the family, all services will be private.  Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery, Lawrence.  Arrangements are made by Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to the Armenian Apostolic Church at Hye Point in Haverhill.
