Santina D. Marcello
May 25, 1930 ~ March 16, 2018 (age 87) 87 Years Old
Santina D. (Galluzzo) Marcello, age 87, passed away on Friday, March 16, 2018 after a brief illness at Lawrence General Hospital with her loving family by her side. Sandye was a lifelong resident of Lawrence, born on May 25, 1930 to the late Vincenzo and Vincenza (Purpura) Galluzzo.
She was a graduate of Lawrence High School, class of 1947. She was employed at First National Supermarket, followed by thirty years as a bookkeeper at the Greater Lawrence Community Action Council.
She raised five children single-handedly, and was considered “Ma” to many in the neighborhood. The care and upbringing of her children were the most important things to her. On a rare occasion that she took time for herself, she enjoyed square dancing with the former Track Town Trotters of Salem, NH, needlework, and other various crafts. She was a great cook and an awesome baker who was a local “Cake Boss” in her own right, carefully designing and building elegant wedding cakes for many of her family and friends. She was an excellent 45’s player, kind of a “Ringer,” if you were fortunate enough to draw her for a partner. She enjoyed her memberships in community organizations such as, The Sons of Italy, Lodge 902, and the Saint Rita’s Sodality at Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church.
Throughout her life, her children, extended family and her large number of close friends, whom she always kept in touch with, remained most important to her. Whenever possible, she enjoyed traveling, whether to Italy, Disney, or the annual family trip to North Conway. Sharing life experiences with those closest to her was her greatest joy.
She will be remembered as a strong, determined, resourceful, caring, loving, generous and highly spiritual person who measured herself by the success of her family and prided herself on their accomplishments.
Sandye will be deeply missed by her son, Michael Marcello of Methuen; her daughters and sons-in-law, Lorraine and Robert Buco of Lawrence, Lisa and Christopher Tibak of Lawrence; daughter, Loretta Marcello of Lawrence and her partner, Girvan Hendricks of Salem, NH; son-in-law, Paul Duhamel of Lawrence; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Vincent B. Marcello; her daughter, Linda Marcello Duhamel; brothers, Salvatore (Sam) Galluzzo and Vincenzo (Jimmy) Galluzzo; and sisters, Mary Maille, Europa Frye, and Mary Galluzzo.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, March 22, 2018, from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street, Methuen. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, March 23, 2018, at Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 35 Essex St., Lawrence at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lawrence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sandye’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
