Tribute

Robert J. Sweeney Jr., 77, of Merrimac, MA, peacefully passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Holy Family Hospital, surrounded by his loving daughters. Born on February 8, 1946, he was the son of the late Robert Sweeney Sr. and Muriel (Crossman) Caldwell.

A native of Peabody, MA, Bob grew up in Georgetown, MA, where he graduated from high school. Following high school, he embarked on a career in the plumbing and heating industry, dedicating many years to the trade. Later in life, he joined Home Depot, where he enjoyed assisting the "weekend warriors" with their projects. Bob maintained a strong connection to Salem, MA, particularly at the Salem Willows, where his family operated a business for many years.

An adventurer at heart, Bob cherished trips to the White Mountains with his children and remained actively engaged with his family throughout his life. He was a proud grandfather who enthusiastically cheered on his grandchildren at their sporting events. Bob was an avid outdoorsman and devoted Boston sports fan. He also enjoyed playing Cribbage and 45s.

Bob's greatest passion was fishing, and he shared that love with his family. Whether teaching his grandchildren to cast a rod, enjoying a day of deep-sea fishing, or simply sitting by the lake with his fishing crew, he found joy in every moment. In 2018, Bob embarked on a dream fishing trip to Alaska, catching enough salmon to share with family and friends. His daily routine included a medium black coffee from Dunkin' Donuts, paired with a Boston Crème or Jelly donut.

Bob is predeceased by his beloved son, Rob Sweeney. He is survived by his loving daughters: Beth Castle and her partner Adrian Walton, Rebecca Regan and her partner James Greene, Danielle Sweeney and her husband Luis Ramos, and Rachelle Legros and her husband Brian Legros. He is also survived by stepchildren: David Cullen and Krisztina Gonyer; daughter-in-law, Jen Moreau; and cherished grandchildren: Victoria, Aidan, Laila, Dario, Trinity, James, Alanna, Camden, Connor, Cody, Chloe, Arianna, Allora, Ayden, Andrew, Dylan, and Landon. Additionally, Bob is survived by his brother, Daniel Sweeney, his wife Lynn, and their three daughters, Cathy, Sandra and Cheryl; and niece, Kellie Sweeney.
