Robert Mayer
June 21, 1948 ~ September 19, 2019 (age 71) 71 Years Old
Robert “Bob” Mayer, a longtime Salem, NH resident, passed away unexpectedly in his home Thursday, September 19, 2019 at the age of 71. He was the husband of Carmela F. (Comforti) Mayer with whom he shared 44 wonderful years of marriage.
The son of the late Frank J. and Carmelina R. (Lanzafame) Mayer, Bob was born in Lawrence. He was raised and educated in Methuen, graduating from Tenney High, class of 1966. After proudly serving his country for 4 years by enlisting in the United States Air Force while stationed in England, Bob was happy to return to his hometown of Methuen. Perhaps one of the happiest days of his life was when he married his dear Carmela on June 7th, 1975. The two first lived in Methuen and later settled in Salem, NH to provide a comfortable home for their daughter.
All the while working as a loan officer for the Department of Veteran Affairs, Bob enjoyed taking time to play cards with his brother, nephew and friends and following the New England Sports teams, especially the Patriots. Bob most enjoyed with his wife Carmela by his side, taking long car rides even when there was no destination in mind. He especially loved driving to the beach and watching the waves crash while holding his wife’s hand.
A family man, Bob will be remembered by his family for his continued love and support, always there when he was needed to help with difficult times and enjoyed the happy times as well. Bob always put his family before himself and it showed in his extreme generosity. Committed to his community, Bob proudly served on the Town of Salem Budget Committee. He loved the presence of his wife, daughter, and siblings, however no one was more important in his life than his sweet granddaughter, the late Addison, whom he loved and missed so much.
In addition to his wife Carmela, Bob is survived by his beloved daughter Karen Lavoie and her husband Eric of Dracut, MA; brothers James Mayer and his wife Robin of Salem, NH, Charles Mayer of Salem, NH; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to pay respects to Bob’s family between the hours of 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM on Monday, September 23, 2019 at the Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street, Methuen. A funeral service will follow in the Chapel at St. Mary-Immaculate Conception Mausoleum, 29 Baker Street, Lawrence. In lieu of flowers, Bob wished for donations to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241 or donate.americanheart.org.
