Richard D. Powell, 57, of Methuen, MA, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 22, 2020, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was the son of the late Claire F. (Howell) and James H. Powell. Born and raised in Lawrence, Rick graduated from Central Catholic High School and later received his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Lowell. He spent many years at Lucent Technology as a cost accountant.
Rick enjoyed gardening, photography, and spending time at the family cottage on Lake Winnipesaukee. He was the main organizer of the "family reunions" and will be greatly missed by his many first cousins. Rick was noted for always wanting to take ‘just one more picture’ as he cherished the memories of those special times and wanted every moment documented. Despite the groans that sometimes followed, Rick always got the shot he wanted, even when he wasn't able to control the camera himself. His extended family knew him as a selfless and strong individual who fought a courageous battle against a truly horrible disease. His loving family and many friends will miss him deeply even though we all knew he saved his biggest smiles for his sweet dog, Lilly.
Richard is survived by his children, Sean Powell of Methuen and Megan Powell of Methuen; siblings, James Powell of Tyngsboro, MA and Sharon Marsan and her husband Ray of Methuen. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Kyle Marsan and his wife Amy of Haverhill, Dave and Brian Marsan of Methuen, and Jimmy and Amy Powell of Tyngsboro; and by his very special cousin and "angel" Linda Dinsmore, with whom he spent endless hours shopping, lunching, and getting caught up on all the family gossip. She made the seemingly endless doctor visits tolerable.
We would like to thank the staff of both the Methuen Village and Above and Beyond Home Healthcare for always treating Rick like he was their own family especially during the recent quarantine.
Due to the current COVID-19 situation, all services and interment for Richard will be held in private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s memory may be made to Parkinson Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Ste. 1509, New York, NY 10018 or to http://support.pdf.org.
