Richard G. "Dick" Catteau

June 20, 1931 ~ June 22, 2020 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Tribute

Richard "Dick" Catteau, 89, of Methuen, MA, passed away suddenly at his home on Monday, June 22, 2020. He was the son of Remy and Marion (Hobbs) Catteau.

Born and raised in Methuen, Dick was a graduate of E.F. Searles High School, class of 1949. He served in the MA National Guard during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1956. He was the Superintendent of Attendance in the Methuen Public Schools for eighteen years and retired in 1986. He was also the co-owner of Methuen Monumental Co. for many years.

A member of several masonic lodges and a recipient of the 50-year medal, Dick was also a 32nd degree Mason, MSA in the Scottish Rite Bodies of Massachusetts, a member of Royal Arch and Council of York Rite, and a 40-plus-year Shriner of New Hampshire.

Dick was always active in the church. Throughout his years, he was a member of Forest Street Union Church in Methuen, Windham Presbyterian Church in Windham, NH, Oakland Sidney United Methodist Church in Oakland, ME, and was a current member of Christian Fellowship Church of Merrimack Valley in Methuen.

An avid sportsman, Dick hunted and fished all of his life. He and his wife Carole were an adventurous couple and enjoyed hobbies like snowmobiling, mopedding, cross-country skiing, taking cruises, dancing, playing 45s, boating on Lake Winnipesaukee, and spending their special season in Clearwater Beach, FL.

Dick was predeceased by his wife, of fifty-seven years, Carole E. (Wilson) Catteau, who passed in 2018; his parents; son, Richard G. Catteau, Jr.; and his brother, Ronald Catteau.

He will be missed by his daughters, Cathy Lee, and husband, James of NH, Roanne Colizzi and husband, David, of NH; Lynne Poublon, and husband, John, of NY; Candace Colizzi, and husband, Michael, of NH; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.  

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Sunday, June 28, 2020 (which happens to be his wife, Carole's, birthday) from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen. Funeral services will be held following visiting hours at 5:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. ** Due to COVID-19 guidelines, face-masks will be required to enter the funeral home and social distancing must be followed. If you have an underlying condition of concern, please do not attend. Our family will feel your love and support, and will respect your decision. Private burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen.
