Richard J. Buba
August 2, 1949 ~ July 12, 2021 (age 71) 71 Years Old
Richard John Buba, 71, of Atkinson, NH passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, July 12, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Eugenia (Zanetos) Buba. He was born and raised in Salem, MA. His father, Karol Buba was from Salem and his mother, Nina (Rechetnuk) Buba was from Everett.
In his childhood years, Richard pursued a ham radio hobby, which ended up cultivating a passion and love for electronics. He continued this interest at Merrimack College where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. As a student he also attended a summer program in 1971 at M.I.T. where he met Eugenia Zanetos of Boston who he would eventually marry. After graduation, Richard enlisted in the United States Navy pilot program and upon completion of his service, married his sweetheart Eugenia in July of 1973.
Richard began his career as an executive in the early days of Digital Equipment Corporation and later at Centronics where he focused on sales and marketing. He was also instrumental in developing and improving various product lines and these experiences afforded him the opportunity to travel extensively overseas.
Seeking wider horizons, Richard formed his own business, LEXI Computer Systems, in 1985. Starting from his home basement in Andover he eventually expanded to an office complex in North Andover and was soon employing dozens of professionals in the electronics field from the surrounding area.
At the same time, Richard was also active at the Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church and helped to lead the fundraising and development efforts which accomplished the construction of a new church at its current location in Andover. He served on the church board for several years and participated in numerous church activities while raising his family with Eugenia in Andover.
Richard’s great love for the outdoors included boating, fishing, hunting, camping, and hiking. He and Eugenia moved to Atkinson, NH in 2016. He happily volunteered for the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge in Newbury, MA and for the White Mountain National Forestry Service in New Hampshire.
Richard is survived by his wife, Eugenia Zanetos Buba and their children, Jonathan and his wife Allison of New York City and Stephan and his partner Betsy of Los Angeles; as well as grandchildren, Charlie and Reese Buba. Richard is also survived by siblings, Frances Noone and her husband Joseph, KJ Buba and his wife Vicki, Kathleen Casey, Christine Bixby and her husband Brian, James Buba, Ninamary Buba, Michael Buba and his wife Sandy, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
