Tribute

Raymond G. “Skippy” Autiello Sr., 90, of Methuen, MA, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2021, at Holy Family Hospital surrounded by family. He was the loving husband of Angelina Autiello with whom he shared 69 wonderful years of marriage. Born on January 14, 1931, he was the son of the late Paul and Adele (D’Agostino) Autiello. He was affectionately known as Skip, Skippy, or Uncle Skippy.

Ray served in the Navy during the Korean War. He went to school nights to earn an engineering degree and worked all his career at Avco/Textron where he retired from after almost 40 years. He was involved in designing pieces of the Apollo space crafts and some of his work remains on the moon, including the Luna Module “LEM.”

He enjoyed golfing, earned many belts in Karate, traveled all over the country and abroad with his wife, family and friends. He spent many winters in Florida where he created many long-standing relationships and spent summers at his beloved “CAMP” on Stiles Pond in Boxford, MA. The pride and joy of his life was his “family,” which includes his wife, son, daughter-in-law, three grandchildren and spouses, and six great-grandchildren. He enjoyed his times with his many extended cousins, nieces and nephews and many Christmas Eves at “Granny’s House” where receiving “wares” (clothing) was the present of the night!

He recently became a resident at The Woods at Merrimack in Methuen, where the community became a second family to him and his wife.

Ray was predeceased by his brothers, Eugene and Paul Autiello. He leaves his wife, Angelina, “Angie”; sister, Geraldine Dahrouge; sisters-in-law, Nancy Autiello and Lucy Autiello. He also leaves his son, Raymond and wife Mary Ellen (Coco); those who knew him as "Gramps:" granddaughters, Lori Landry, husband Mark, Christina Ward, husband Kevin; grandson, Steven Autiello, wife Jill; great-grandchildren, Reese Autiello, Grace Autiello, Brayden Landry, Madison Landry, Catalena Ward, and Maddox Ward.
