Rafael A. Garcia Sr.

May 14, 1951 ~ July 24, 2019 (age 68) 68 Years Old

Tribute

Rafael A. Garcia, Sr., 68, of Lawrence passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at the Parkland Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born in Humacao, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Rafael and Adela (Hernandez) Garcia.

Ray was raised and educated in both Puerto Rico and Lawrence. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1970. After graduation, he proudly served with the U.S. Navy.

Ray worked as an expeditor at Raytheon for 25 years. He took pride in living a life exemplified by hard work in everything he did. Ray enjoyed spending time with his family – especially his grandchildren – and being out on the water partaking in his life-long hobby of fishing. He would regularly spend hours at sea for a cooler full of fish, only to turn around and share his catch with friends who weren’t as lucky that day. Ray always found enjoyment in watching his five children play basketball. Later in life, as a proud grandpa, he was honored to be on the sidelines as his grandchildren played sports. His love of family was evident as he often shared stories of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren with friends.

Ray is survived by his wife, Linda (Antonelli) Garcia; his children, Rafael Garcia, Jr. and his wife Danyelle of Methuen, Michael Garcia and his wife Kristina of North Andover, Nicholas Garcia and his wife Holly of Lawrence, Eric Garcia of Methuen, and Samantha Garrity and her husband Patrick of Haverhill; sisters, Carmen Santiago and her husband Francisco of Lawrence, Idaliz Lebron of Methuen, Evelyn Rivera of Puerto Rico, and Ivette Erazo of Florida. He left behind seven beautiful grandchildren; Sonny, Sam, Ben, Nico, Lorenzo, Dante, and Cece, who brought him so much joy. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, David Garcia.

Per Ray’s wishes, all services will be private. The family appreciates everyone’s understanding, and would also like to extend a wonderful thank you to the ICU nurses and staff at Parkland Medical Center who provided great care to Ray. Arrangements are by Cataudella Funeral Home in Methuen.
