Patricia M. Hurley

Patricia M. (Metthe) Hurley, 81, a long-time resident of Lawrence, MA, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Saturday, July 11, 2020. She was born on May 19, 1939, in Haverhill, MA, the daughter of the late Raymond and Ida Mae (Walker) Metthe.

Raised and educated in Haverhill, Pat was a graduate of St. James High School. She earned an Associate degree in accounting from Northern Essex Community College and worked for many years as an accountant for W.J. Schafer Associates in Chelmsford. Pat was very knowledgeable, as well as personable and pleasant with her co-workers, which made her quite an asset to W.J. Schafer throughout the years. She also worked part-time at the Haverhill AMVETS and the Sargent Club in Methuen before she retired.

Pat was a wonderful mother and a terrific grandmother who looked forward to spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved her family with all her heart and she will forever be missed. Pat was the devoted mother of daughter, Darlene and her husband, Joe of Lawrence, sons, Paul and wife, Carol of Kansas, Hervey and wife, Terry of Kansas, Joe and wife, Wendy of Haverhill, and Thomas of Lawrence; sister, Dorothy of Florida, the late Harold of Haverhill, Raymond, Jr. of Haverhill, and Donald of Maine. She is also survived by several sisters-in-law and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pat will be fondly remembered as very loving, giving, and compassionate; she was extremely active and always doing something for someone. Her hobbies included crocheting, playing board games with her grandchildren, and solving crossword puzzles. She donated most of her creations, especially crocheted hats and blankets, to homeless family shelters, nursing homes, and veteran organizations providing services to the less fortunate.

Due to the pandemic, funeral services will be private. A memorial service for family and friends will be
held at a later date.
