Ofelia Chavez

Ofelia (Soto) Chavez, 73, of Methuen, MA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, surrounded by her family, in the comfort of her home. She was the wife of Carlos Chavez, Sr., with whom she shared forty-nine wonderful years in marriage.

Born and raised in Guatemala City, Guatemala, the daughter of the late Vicente and Maria (Giron) Soto, Ofelia immigrated to Massachusetts in 1972. Soon after, she was introduced to her sweetheart, Carlos. In 1974, they were married and settled in Lawrence, MA where they began their family. They later moved to and stayed in Methuen.

In her free time, Ofelia enjoyed crocheting and gardening. She was an excellent cook and would truly brighten anyone's day through her meals. She loved to share time with her family, especially during the holidays. She enjoyed serving at her church, and had a generous heart to visit and help those that were in need and/or sick. Ofelia loved to laugh and most importantly loved to share her faith to anyone that was willing to listen.

Ofelia was predeceased by Irene Juárez, Efraín Soto, María Morales.

She is survived by her children, Nancy (Coquí) O. Jones and her husband Tyler C. Jones, Jr. of Methuen, Karla (Karo) J. Chavez of Methuen, Carlos (Toki) E. Chavez, Jr. of Methuen; grandchildren, Ethan V. Lochard-Chavez, Liam T. C Jones; and siblings, Josefina Soto, Jaime Soto, Olga Soto; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, March 24, 2023, between 4:00-7:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street, Methuen. A funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 10:00 AM in the funeral home chapel.
