Nabiha Kassis

Nabiha (Shahoud) Kassis, 91, of Methuen, passed away surrounded by her loving family on January 16, 2020 in Haverhill. She was born in Qaa in the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon to Abraham and Sadie Shahoud on January 1, 1929.

In 1952, Nabiha married the late Elias Kassis and went on to raise five children and then two of her granddaughters after her son, Gerious, was kidnapped in 1985 during the Lebanese Civil War. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1995 and shared time between her childrens’ homes, where she loved to cook, garden, play card games, and watch Lebanese television.

Nabiha was predeceased by her husband, Elias (2002) and is survived by her children: Khattar and his wife Jeanane of Windham, NH, Salim and his wife Minerva of Methuen, Wardeh Kobrosly and her late husband Salim of Zahle, Lebanon, Samia and her husband Tony Khoury of Lyon, France, and Gerious (missing) and his wife Marlene of Zahle, Lebanon; fifteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.

The family of Nabiha wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the nurses and staff at Wingate Nursing Home, especially Cindy and Jackie, for taking loving care of Nabiha over the past several months.

Friends and relatives are respectfully invited to visiting hours on Thursday, January 23, 2020 from 4:00 PM-8:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 24, 2020 at St. Joseph Melkite Church, 241 Hampshire Street in Lawrence with Fr. Ziad Layous officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery in Methuen.
