Mildred H. (Obst) Saffie

Mildred H. (Obst) Saffie, 93, of Methuen, MA, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was married to the love of her life, Albert, for nearly 70 years. Born on July 3, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Eric and Helen (Benker) Obst.

Mildred was born and raised in Lawrence where she attended local schools and graduated from Lawrence High School. After graduation she met Albert and began a long loving life with him. Mildred worked for many years as a mender for Pacific Mills and was a volunteer at Holy Family Hospital for several years before her retirement.

She was very proud of her German heritage and was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her love for shopping was one of her favorite pastimes, especially QVC, as well as traveling around the country and internationally, reading, writing poetry, soap operas, puzzles, and playing the violin in the Lawrence Symphony. She loved her iPad and Facebook, keeping up to date with everything that was going on. Mildred enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren, making family meals, and most of all spending time with her entire family.

She will be greatly missed by her husband Albert, her children Carol Dolan and her husband Steve of Methuen, Joanne Saffie of Methuen, David Saffie and his wife Lisa of Windham, NH, William Saffie and his wife Anne of Candia, NH, her grandchildren Katelyn, Peter, Timothy, Derek, Emily, Amanda, Holly, Allison and Noah, her sister Dorothy Glendye and her husband Joseph of Salem, NH as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mildred was pre-deceased by her brothers Wilfrid and Raymond Obst and daughter Joanne’s fiancé Dennis Collins.

Children had a special place in her heart and she generously donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital as well as the Shriners Hospital. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Friday, August 20, 2021, from 4:00PM to 7:00PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street, Methuen. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:00 AM on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 115 Wheeler Rd, Dracut. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen.
