Michael Rubera, Sr., 88, a longtime Methuen resident passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 2, 2020.  Mike was born on December 15, 1931 in East Hartford, CT, the son of the late Paulo and Santina (Lorito) Rubera.

Mike grew up in East Hartford, CT in a large Italian family who he remained very close to his entire life.  He served with the U.S. Army Airborne Division as a paratrooper during the Korean War and in the National Guard.  After the Army, he began his career at Avco in Wilmington, MA, and then became a union printer working in print shops in Boston.  After his retirement, he continued to work part-time at Doyle Lumber in Andover, MA and for the Town of Methuen.

Mike enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and the Methuen Rod & Gun Club. He was an avid outdoorsman, artist, photographer, hunter, advice giver and storyteller.  He also enjoyed many conversations over breakfast with friends at The Country Kitchen in Methuen and Sunnyside Diner in Lawrence. 

His children and grandchildren were his greatest joy.  He always said the three most important things in life were family, family, and family.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Rubera and sister, Lucille Rubera Lang, both of CT.

He is survived by his children, Deborah Peters of Methuen, Donna Busfield and her husband Peter of FL, Michael Rubera and his companion Sandra Schindler of Methuen, and Rick Rubera and his wife Gayle of Bristol, NH; sisters, Sandra Rubera and Isabelle Eagleson both of CT; brother, Salvatore Rubera and his wife Lena of FL, and sister-in-law, Jennie Rubera of CT.  He also leaves his former companion Shirley LaCroix and her children of Lawrence, nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Due to the current Covid-19 situation, all services will be private.  Burial with military honors will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
