Michael Paul O'Brien
June 2, 1934 ~ November 11, 2022 (age 88) 88 Years Old
Hampton NH/Formerly of Lawrence MA -- Michael P. O’Brien passed away peacefully in the early evening hours of November 11, 2022. Born June 2, 1934, he was the youngest child of Margaret (Morgan) and Joseph O’Brien. Michael is survived by his daughter, Karen O’Brien and her husband Donald Lacroix of Alton Bay, NH; and his son, Kevin O’Brien and his wife Lisa Robie O’Brien of North Hampton NH; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Theresa Bernice (Tierney) O’Brien; his brother, Joseph "Buddy" O’Brien; and sisters: Anna King, Barbara Pellerin, Mary Esile, Eileen Sirois, and Margaret "Margie" Valcourt.
As a young man, Michael worked in the mills of Haverhill, MA until embarking on a 25-plus-year career at Raytheon Corp in Andover, MA. He and his family enjoyed many summers on the “Big Lake” at Lanes End in Melvin Village, NH. In his retirement, he traveled a bit but preferred to stay closer to home listening to live music with all his “jazz friends” several nights each week. He loved Summer Theater at the Ogunquit Playhouse and the NSMT. Michael would only stay home to watch the Red Sox or to get a little sleep.
Born to play the piano, Michael could play almost any song as long as you could hum the melody. Michael played piano for decades at several fine restaurants from Newburyport, MA to York, ME until the age of 85. Later in life, he moved to Hampton Beach and quickly widened his circle of friends to include morning gatherings at KB’s for coffee and conversation. All of them meant so much to him!
We are truly grateful for the care and compassion provided to our father by Dr. Leo Lane and Dr. Michael Landman as well as the incredible staff and community of Webster at Rye Assisted Living.
Family and friends are invited to gather at calling hours on Thursday, November 17, 2022, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street, Methuen. A funeral service will take place on Friday at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel.
