Michael J. Mackin, 92, of Salem, NH, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Toronto, Canada on June 22, 1927 to the late John and Eliza (Maguire) Mackin.
He attended St. Augustine Elementary School and was a graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School. Michael went on to attend the State University of New York at Brockport, Hofstra University and Michigan State University. Michael worked as a teacher, principal, Instructor at Adelphi & Hofstra University, and Superintendent of Schools in Nanuet, NY, Nauset, MA, and Briarcliff Manor. Michael also served in the United States Navy as a Seamen during WWII.
Michael enjoyed hiking, camping, traveling, the ocean, most especially his home in Brewster, and spending as much time possible with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife of sixty-two years, Mary J. (Staunton) Mackin.
Michael is survived by his six children, Maura Mansour and her husband, Michael of Methuen, Patricia Savino and her husband, Christopher of Ft. Pierce, FL, Michael J. Mackin and his wife, Shari of Lunenburg, Bernadette Graycar and her husband, Paul of Salem, NH, James Mackin of Fairfax, VA, and Margaret Mannion and her husband, Michael of North Andover; sister, Sheelah Brown and her husband, Thomas of Trumbull, CT. He also leaves seventeen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, January 13, 2020 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home 126 Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen. His funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at St. Michael Parish, 196 Main Street in North Andover. Interment will follow in Ridgewood Cemetery in North Andover. Donations in Michael’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
