Michael Kolofoles
June 10, 1929 ~ January 7, 2019 (age 89) 89 Years Old
Michael Kolofoles, 89, of Lawrence passed away on January 7, 2019 following a brief illness, surrounded by his family. He was born in Lawrence, June 10, 1929 and was the son of the late James and Argero Kolofoles. He was one of five siblings, which included H. Eleni, George, Charles, and Nicholas.
A graduate of Lawrence High School, Michael continued to reside in Lawrence. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and was stationed at Sampson Air Force Base in Geneva, NY, until his honorable discharge in 1955. While serving his country, Michael earned several medals in National Defense Service. After the service, Michael worked briefly as a bartender at the Andover Country Club and then was employed by the City of Lawrence Water Department, where he worked for the remainder of his career.
Michael married Joan Cyr and had two children, Lynne and Stacy, of whom he was very proud. He enjoyed life to the fullest, and always had a smile on his face that we all loved. Michael’s favorite place to be was at the beach. In his younger years, he would spend lots of time at Salisbury Beach, and loved stopping at his favorite Tripoli’s Pizza. In his later years, he would spend winters at Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota with his family. He loved taking long walks on the beach, and was a true sun worshiper. Michael loved to travel and visited Greece and the Caribbean Islands with his longtime partner, Mary Duffy of Arlington, MA.
A warm, kind-hearted person, Michael was loved by all who knew him. He was very proud of his Greek heritage and loved Greek music and food, especially Greek Lemon soup. He took extreme pride in his children and grandchildren, Jordan and Katina. He loved to spend summer days with them lounging by the pool, or attending their sporting events, music recitals, and always taught his family member’s important life lessons, which the family continues to treasure.
Michael is survived by his two daughters, Lynne Kolofoles-Lopez of Salem, NH, and Stacy Kolofoles of Methuen and her fiancé Derek Sammataro; sister, H. Eleni Woodis of North Andover; brothers, Charles Kolofoles and his wife Joan, and Nicholas Kolofoles, all of Lawrence; grandchildren, Jordan and Katina Lopez of Salem, NH; nieces, Jean and Kim; and nephew, Charles, Jr.; as well as other great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, George Kolofoles.
The family would like to extend special thanks for the wonderful support, love and care that Michael received at Greystone Farm in Salem, NH, where he resided during the last year of his life.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours Thursday, January 10, 2019 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 11, 2019 at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 71 Chandler Road in Andover. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen.
