Marilyn J. McCarthy
August 16, 1947 ~ March 19, 2020 (age 72) 72 Years Old
After a long and challenging battle with ALS, our loving, kind, and extraordinary wife, mother, and friend, Marilyn (Longo) McCarthy, passed away Thursday evening, March 19, 2020, in the comfort of her immediate family.
Marilyn’s gentle and exceptionally caring demeanor, along with her great patience and optimism was felt by family and friends throughout her life. She was born in Lawrence and she and her husband raised their family in Methuen. The quintessential professional, Marilyn retired as the lead administrative assistant at the Comprehensive Grammar School in Methuen in 2009. She loved to cook for family and friends, laugh, spend time at the beach, and be in the moment.
The McCarthy family expresses deep gratitude to the ICU staff at Lawrence General Hospital for the incredible care they offered Marilyn in the last few months of her life. Her beautiful legacy lives on with all those she knew and loved.
She is survived by her husband, Francis "Frank" McCarthy of Salem, NH; daughter, Jennifer (McCarthy) Ata and her husband, Al; grandchildren, Brady, Breanna, and TJ, all of Salem, NH; her son, Bill McCarthy and his husband, Daniel Bernard of Brooklyn, NY; brothers, Anthony Longo and wife, Patti of Andover, and Gus Longo and wife, Joann of Haverhill; godmother and aunt, Angelina Fazio of North Andover; and many, many friends and family.
Due to the current state of health affairs, a memorial and celebration of life will be held later this spring once an appropriate gathering can take place.
