Marie V. Byra

Marie V. (Concemi) Byra, age 95, of Haverhill, MA and former long-time Lawrence, MA resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 29, 2019, with her loving family at her side. She was the wife of the late Stanley G. Byra with whom she shared thirty wonderful years of marriage.

Born, raised, and educated in Lawrence, Marie was the daughter of the late Phillip and Maria (Giuffre) Concemi. Following graduation from Lawrence High School, she went on to graduate from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in 1942. Marie then began working as a pharmacist at Mount Washington Pharmacy in Haverhill for many years and later at Lawrence General Hospital until her retirement.

It was in 1959 that Marie married the love of her life, Stanley. The two were so happy together, settled in Haverhill, and started their family. Unfortunately, Stanley was taken far too soon, only thirty years after their marriage. Marie remained focused on her career and her family, as family was what mattered most to her. Always there for her children, Marie loved to make sure they were happy and that their home was inviting to family and friends. She most enjoyed days when the boys were at home, especially during the holidays. But, by far, their summer home in Salisbury, MA was the most cherished place to go as a family, enjoying the sound of the waves crashing on the shore and most importantly, the family and friends that were ever present. Her granddaughters meant the world to her and she was so proud of them.

Marie is survived by her sons, Stanley P. Byra and his wife Diane of Salisbury, Michael Byra of Lowell; grandchildren Jillian, Hayley and Melanie Byra of Salisbury; sister Ida Pazzanese of Haverhill; brother Jack Barrows of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews. Marie was predeceased by her siblings, Frances Fichera, Connie Orsi, Alfea Tomisselli, Fred Concemi, and Josephine Cannata.

Marie’s family would like to thank all of the nurses and staff of Ivy Hill Court, formerly Steven’s-Bennett Home in Haverhill, for all the exceptional care, support, and friendship made during caring for their mother.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 3, 2019, at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 4, 2019, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, 300 Haverhill Street in Lawrence. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Lawrence.
