Maria S. Caruso

Maria S. Caruso, 79, of Methuen, MA, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 13, 2019 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Via Grande, Catania, Sicily on December 20, 1939 to the late Salvatore and Giuseppina (Caruso) Guglielmino, Maria was educated in Sicily and moved to Lawrence when she was nineteen. She worked as a seamstress before making a loving home and operating her own sewing business. She was a tireless caretaker to many family members and will always be remembered for her Italian culinary skills. Maria enjoyed bike riding and power walks on the beaches of Salisbury, MA and Fort Myers, FL, playing the piano, cooking for family gatherings, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Maria was the beloved wife to the late, Sebastian “Ned” Caruso of Methuen for fifty-two years. She was the loving mother of Christine Caruso of Methuen, and Sandra M. Stanford and her husband, Jim of Salem, NH; and dear grandmother to Brian and James Stanford. She is also survived by her brother, Peter Guglielmino and his wife, Maureen of Laconia, NH; sister-in-law, Santina Consoli and her husband, Ben of Newburyport, MA; and several nieces, nephews, and grand-dog, Remy.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Thursday from 4:00-8:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 20, 2019 at St. Lucy Parish, 254 Merrimack Street in Methuen. Burial will follow at St. Mary-Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence.
