Lucille M. Daigle

Lucille M. (Ratte) Daigle, 97 of Methuen, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at Nevins Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Edward Daigle with whom she shared fifty wonderful years of marriage.

Born and raised in Methuen, Lucille was the daughter of the late Arthur and Rose (Comeau) Ratte. She attended St. Theresa School and Tenney High School in Methuen, and later attended the School of Practical Nursing, Holy Ghost Hospital, Boston. As a young woman, she worked as a practical nurse providing care for newborn babies. Later, she worked for the Lawrence School Department and retired after many years of service.

Proud of her French heritage, Lucille was a caring, selfless, generous woman -- strong character traits she developed growing up as one of eleven children. She spent her life caring for others, helping out with her siblings early in life to attending to the needs of her own children and husband as she grew older. In her married life, she enjoyed traveling with her husband “Eddy.” Her husband was the light of her life and together they made a wonderful family and legacy that will continue on for many years. As grandchildren and then great-grandchildren joined the family, her caring nature never wavered. She was always ready with a smile, a hug, and food. Lucille was a nurturer, and she showed her love by always having a meal prepped and ready for anyone who came by to see her. She took great pride in being there for her family as a good, caring mother, wife, sister, aunt, friend, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

For her grandkids and great grandkids, a visit meant toys, snacks and always a few dollars to pad their wallets. There was not one time where you visited Gram that she didn’t have money or a meal to give you. That’s just how she was. She never wanted anyone to go to any trouble and she never expected anything in return.

Lucille lived an uncomplicated life, but she always looked polished, classy and put together. She loved to take walks, do her exercises, and later when she couldn’t do those things, she enjoyed sitting in her den, watching her “stories,” and listening to music. She also loved to play Scrabble with her sister Evelyn, and couldn’t be beat.

Last week, we lost a true angel on earth. Today, she is in heaven and at peace, but she will be sadly missed by everyone who was lucky enough to have known her.

Lucille was predeceased by her son, Robert Daigle, who passed away in 2009, as well as many brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her daughter Rosemarie Ross of Methuen, wife of the late John Ross who passed away in 2016; daughter-in-law, Carol Daigle; her sisters, Helen Frey of Methuen, Evelyn Sirois of Methuen, Claire Hibbard of Brentwood, NH, and Lillian Davis of Port Orange, FL; and her brother, Richard Ratte and his wife Danielle of Atkinson, NH; several nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Alicia Cardosi and her husband Anthony of Londonderry, NH, Michelle Eld and her husband Reginald of Dracut, MA, Mark Ross and his wife Lindsay of Londonderry, NH, and Melanie Martel and her husband Mark of Groton, MA. She also leaves behind eight adoring great-grandchildren: Austin, Aidan, Tyler, Dylan, AnaRose, Ella, Jack, and Hazel.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visitation hours on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 between the hours of 9:30-11:30 AM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at St. Theresa Church, 22 Plymouth Street, Methuen. A committal service will follow in the chapel mausoleum at St. Mary – Immaculate Conception Cemetery, 29 Barker Street, Lawrence.
