Lucie (Porras) Morande, age 94, formerly of Salem, NH, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2019 with her family by her side following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Henry Morande.
Born in Boston on September 3, 1925, Lucie was the eldest daughter of the late Ramiro and Victoria (Salvato) Porras. She grew up in Cambridge before marrying her best friend and the boy next door, Henry. They enjoyed sixty-eight wonderful years of marriage, filled with family, endless laughter, and Lucie’s Italian cooking before his passing in 2014. She was best known by her family and friends for her humor, quick wit, and feisty personality. Her Italian anisette cookies will equally be missed at family gatherings.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Jean Davis and Ruthie Vrettas; her niece, Lisa Avery; and her great-nephew, Glen O’Blenes, Jr.
Lucie was the family matriarch and will be sadly missed by her loving daughter and caretaker for many years, Linda Fredricks and son-in-law, Frazer, of Salem, NH; her granddaughter, Kristin Vaillancourt and her husband, Marc; two great-grandchildren, by whom she was affectionately known as “G.G.” to, Henry and Olivia Vaillancourt, all of Tewksbury; adored sister, Beverly Call of Cambridge; her brother-in-law, Roy Davis; and many loved nieces and nephews.
Lucie’s family would like to express their gratitude to Merrimack Valley Hospice, Greystone Farm at Salem, and Wingate at Andover for their compassion and wonderful care.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday,
November 18, 2019 at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen. At the family’s request, all are invited to join with them directly at St. Paul Parish, 29 Mount Auburn Street, Cambridge, MA to celebrate her funeral mass at 10:30 am on Tuesday, November 19, 2019. Interment will follow at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, MA. In lieu of flowers, Lucie’s family requests donations in her memory to be sent to the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 North Ave, Haverhill, MA 01830, or www.homehealthfoundation.org.
