Lourdes A. Martinez

Lourdes A. (Ramirez) Martinez, age 77, a longtime Lawrence resident, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Sutton Hill Center in North Andover after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Manuel A. Martinez, Jr. with whom she shared nearly fifty-four years of marriage.

Born and raised in Camaguey, Cuba, the daughter of the late Pablo and Lourdes (Martinez) Ramirez, Lourdes was a dedicated academic student and spent many years studying classical piano. In 1966, she immigrated to the United States with her mother and spent two memorable years in New Orleans, Louisiana, prior to her marriage to Manuel in 1968. Together, they settled in Lawrence, where she raised her family, and worked as a bank teller and IRS clerk.

A devout Catholic, Lourdes was a regular parishioner at Holy Rosary Church. For many years, Lourdes was a member of the Legion of Mary at Holy Rosary. She had a deep love of music, the study of language, a well-brewed cup of coffee, the bloom of trees in the spring, fall leaves, and fresh snowfall.

In addition to her parents, Lourdes was predeceased by her siblings Pablo Ramirez, Mirella Ramirez, Reynaldo Ramirez, and Arnold Ramirez.

She is survived by her two children, Manuel A. Martinez, III of Lawrence, Lourdes C. Martinez of Belmont; siblings Violeta Ramirez, Mirtha (Ramirez) Zaldivar, Julio Ramirez; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street, Methuen. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Holy Rosary Shrine, 33 Essex Street, Lawrence. Interment will follow in St. Mary – Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence.
