Loretta I. Saulen

Loretta Irene (Larmay) Saulen, 84, passed away peacefully with her children by her side. Born in Lawrence, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Clare (Alden) Larmay, and was educated in the Lawrence School System, graduating from Essex County Homemaking School in Danvers, MA and the North Shore Babies and Children’s Hospital in Salem, MA.

Employed as an LPN, Loretta worked in the newborn nursery at the then-named Bon Secours Hospital in Methuen, MA. She raised four children while being employed as a program assistant in the Methuen public schools at the Searles, Central, and Stephen Barker Schools for twenty-seven years until retiring in 2000.

Loretta was honored to be a member of the E-Board of the Methuen Public Schools Retirees Association. She had great times on day trips to many new places with the Elegant Red Hatters, along with many Methuen Senior Center activities and outings with so many friends and have remained with her over the years.

She especially enjoyed making the holiday times spent with her family special, and adored her eight, beautiful grandchildren. She was a strong, nurturing matriarch of her family, whose gift was to make all feel truly loved.

Loretta was predeceased by her husband, Richard J. Saulen in 2006, her sister, Jackelyn Larmay, and her granddaughter, Amelia Lauren Boland.

She is survived by her daughter, Diana Neel and her husband Stephen of Salem, NH; daughter, Laurie Boland of Salem, NH; son, James (Rick) Saulen and his wife Jill of Salem, NH; daughter, Pamela Sambuco and her husband Richard of Andover, MA; grandchildren, Thomas and Michael Neel, Abigail Stone and her husband Jesse, and Andrew Boland, Nicholas Saulen, Julia and Jeffrey Sambuco; sister, Judith Menihane and her husband John of Haverhill, MA; sister-in-law, Shirley Sanford of North Andover, MA; a dear cousin, Nancy Ferretti of North Reading, MA; three nieces, Lynn, Suzanne and Barbara; one nephew, William; four grand-nieces and two grand-nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours from 4:00–7:00 PM on Thursday, May 13, 2021, at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street, Methuen. All are asked to join the family directly at church for a funeral mass celebrated for Loretta at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 14, 2021, at St. Lucy Church, 254 Merrimack Street, Methuen. Interment will immediately follow at Ridgewood Cemetery in North Andover.

As of the most recent update, we are able to offer visitation periods and funeral services in the funeral home or at a church.
