Lionel D. Lemelin, age 83, of Methuen, MA, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2020, with his loving wife at his side. He was the husband of Breeda P. (Nugent) Lemelin with whom he shared fifty-six wonderful years in marriage.

Son of the late Joseph and Aurore (Boivin) Lemelin, Lionel was born and raised in Lawrence, MA, and graduated from Central Catholic High School. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served until his honorable discharge in 1961. Upon his return home, he worked at Western Electric. Lionel pursued his career and worked at Western Electric as it transitioned to Lucent Technologies, where he dedicated thirty-five years of service.

It was during his early time at Western Electric that Lionel met the love of his life, Breeda. They married and settled in Methuen. He was an avid sports fan and favored watching the Red Sox and Patriots, and found great joy in gardening and spending time with his wife, family, and friends.

Lionel was pre-deceased by his sister, Theresa Lemelin Houle of Methuen; his brothers-in-law, William Schloth of Sandown, NH, Ronald R. Spinney of Methuen, and Bertie Nugent of Ireland; and his cousin, Richard Lemelin of Salem, NH.

He is survived by his loving wife, Breeda P. (Nugent) Lemelin; in-laws, Robert Houle of Salem, NH, Mary Schloth of Sandown, NH, Sheila Spinney of Atkinson, NH, Joseph Nugent of Ireland, and Michael Nugent of Ireland; and his nephew, Randy Houle and his wife Carol. In addition, he will also be missed by several nieces, nephews, and many other extended family members in Ireland and Canada.

Mrs. Lemelin would like to express her gratitude to the Methuen Fire Department for all of their assistance with Lionel for the health difficulties he had experienced at home during the last year.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours between the hours of 4:00 - 7:00 PM on Friday, October 30, 2020, at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street, Methuen. A funeral service will be celebrated for Lionel at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 31, 2020 in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lionel’s memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, the Methuen Fire Department, or charitable organization of your choice.
