Josephine S. Salafia
August 10, 1923 ~ November 20, 2019 (age 96) 96 Years Old
Josephine S. (Santuccio) Salafia, age 96, of Tewksbury, MA, and formerly of Lawrence, MA, and North Andover, MA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Samuel L. Salafia, with whom she shared sixty-six years in marriage. Born and raised in Lawrence, MA, the daughter of Pauline (DiPasquale) and John Santuccio, Josephine graduated from Lawrence High School in 1941. She entered the workforce as a skilled seamstress and her last employment was with Enzo of Andover.
In 1945, she married Samuel Salafia and the two settled in South Lawrence and later moved to North Andover, then Tewksbury. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, making oriental rugs, cross stitching and knitting for family and friends. She summered at Seabrook Beach.
Josephine was predeceased by her siblings: Frank Santuccio, Joseph Santuccio, Frances Pupillo, Mary Carberry, Carmela Santuccio and son-in-law, Stephen Munroe.
Josephine is survived by her daughters: Barbara Munroe of Sudbury, MA, Nancy Salafia of Tewksbury, MA and Seabrook NH, and Kathryn Johnian and her husband John of Andover, MA; grandchildren: Scott Munroe and his wife Stacy, Jennifer Stone and her husband Adam and Megan Munroe, all of Sudbury, Alison Thomas and her husband Michael of Beacon Hill and Andrew and David Johnian of Andover, MA. She also leaves her beloved great-grandchildren: Abigail, Molly and Jacob Stone, Grace and Scotty Munroe, and Piper Thomas.
The family of Josephine would like to express their gratitude to the staff at High Pointe House for all of their care and compassion.
Honoring Josephine’s wishes, funeral services will be held privately with the assistance of Cataudella Funeral Home in Methuen. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack Street, Bldg. 9, Lawrence, MA 01843-9924 or to a charity of one’s choice.
