Josephine R. Kutsunakis

Josephine R. “Josie” (Giorato) Kutsunakis, 93, of Methuen passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2020, with her son, George at her side. She was the wife of the late Peter Kutsunakis.

Born in Lawrence, the daughter of the late Salvatore and Francesca (Garofono) Giorato, Josephine was raised and educated in Methuen, graduating from Methuen High School. In 1953, Josephine was married to Peter Kutsunakis, the couple sharing a wonderful marriage together until his passing in 1984. A talented stitcher, Josephine enjoyed many years working for wonderful companies such as Liberty Shoe and Hail Shoe, proud to have mastered fancy stitching, she devoted some twenty years to the industry.

A dedicated wife and mother, Josephine loved to be at home, tending to the needs of her husband and son. She enjoyed preparing meals for her family and keeping a warm and inviting home for them. She enjoyed spending time in her garden, happy to share the fruits of those labors with her family and friends. She also found pleasure in knitting, crocheting, crossword puzzles, and spending time with her dogs.

Josephine made the most of her time spent during this last year at the Nevins Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Methuen. She spent much of her time playing bingo, taking exercise classes, learning arts and crafts, and most especially enjoying the special events hosted by the facility.

Predeceased by her husband and ten siblings, Josephine is survived by her son, George P. Kutsunakis of Methuen.

Josephine’s son, George, would like to express his gratitude for all of the wonderful care and support given to not only his mother but also to himself, as well as for the many friendships along the way.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visitation between the hours of 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM on Monday, February 24, 2020, at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street, Methuen. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery in Haverhill. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Josephine’s memory may be made to the Nevins Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 10 Ingalls Court, Methuen, MA, 01844.
