Josephine A. Hatem

Josephine A. (Masoud) Hatem, 95, of Methuen passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Holy Family Hospital surrounded by her loving family.  Born and raised in Lawrence, she was the daughter of the late Kire and Selma (Yazbek) Masoud.
 
She was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School class of 1939.  In 1947, she married Edmund Hatem and they made their home in Methuen.  After years of raising their two daughters Cynthia and Susan, Josie began a career at the I.R.S in Andover.  She retired as a supervisor and received the Albert Gallatin Award from the United States Department of the Treasury for her outstanding performance and dedication. 
 
She was a parishioner of St. Anthony Maronite Church in Lawrence where she enjoyed being a member of the Ladies Sodality.  Her most treasured moments were times spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She loved going out to lunch with her friends and family and enjoyed an occasional trip to Foxwoods.  Holidays were never complete without her delicious Arabic pastry that she loved to share with everyone.  She was a loving, compassionate, kind woman who will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. 
 
She was predeceased by her husband, Edmund Hatem and her siblings, James, Joseph and Mary Masoud.
 
Josephine is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Kazanjian and her husband George, and Susan Homsey and her husband Michael all of Methuen; her sister-in-law Pauline Epperly of Roanoke, VA; grandchildren, Michael Homsey, Jr., and Ashley Hashem; great-grandchildren, Cole and Ella.   She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
 
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 pm at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at St. Anthony Maronite Church, 145 Amesbury St., Lawrence.  Burial will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Methuen.  Memorial Contributions can be made to St. Anthony Maronite Church.
