Joseph A. Smith, 91, of Lawrence, MA, peacefully passed away on April 10, 2022, at Holy Family Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 16, 1931, he was the son of the late Joseph and Irene (Huard) Smith.
Born and raised in Lowell, Joseph graduated from the Lowell School System and proudly joined the Marines, serving during the Korean War. He met the love of his life, Pauline (Signe) Smith, and they started their family together. Joseph was a Lawrence fire fighter for twenty-five years and he was a proud member of the American Legion Post and VFW Post, both of Methuen. He received a Purple Heart and United Nations ribbon, as well as the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and was the 5th member of the Korean War Veterans Association. Joseph loved to spend time with his family, ride his motorcycle, fish, take trips to the casino, and visit his friends at local pubs.
Along with his parents, Joseph is pre-deceased by his wife, Pauline B. (Signe) Smith.
Joseph will be deeply missed and is survived by his children, David J. Smith and his wife Robbin of Methuen, MA, Debra Smith of Londonderry, NH, and Dawn Smith and her fiancé Philip Moricone of Mooresville, NC; sister, Doris Beland of Billerica, MA; grandchildren, Tanya Raymond, Jaclyn Michaud, Nicholas Michaud, Tracey Smith, Zachary Smith, Alexis Smith, Austin Allard and Brooke Smith; great-grandchildren, Ethan Gianni, Hunter Raymond, Lillian Anaya, Maysun Raymond, Kaylynn Raymond, Maddox Michaud, and Jace Raymond. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Monday, April 18, 2022, at Cataudella Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 18, in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Maronite cemetery, Methuen.
