Joseph L. “Joe” Moreau, 83, of Methuen, MA, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 11, 2020. He was born and raised in Lawrence, MA and was the son of the late Louis and Beatrice (Pothier) Moreau. Joe worked at Andrew Wilson in Lawrence for seventeen years and at Philips Academy in Andover for fifteen years, performing building maintenance until retirement and continued to work on call until present. He loved life, and his family meant everything to him. He treasured times spent with his loved ones, most especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Joe loved fishing, canoeing, hiking, and biking; his inquisitive nature led him on many “adventures.” He enjoyed tinkering with things, and his other hobbies included crafting jewelry, fishing, reel repair, and restoration. Joe especially enjoyed bowling with his grandson and was in the Senior League at Academy Lanes. He also looked forward to spending time in Florida, where he made yearly trips over the last fourteen years with his wife. At the youthful age of sixty, Joe got involved in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk, completing the twenty-six mile walk for thirteen consecutive years.
He was a loving, giving, compassionate, kind man who will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
Joe was predeceased by his siblings, Richard, John, and David.
He is survived by his cherished wife of fifty-five years, Lucy (Cunha) Moreau of Methuen; adored sons, Greg and Jason Moreau, both of Methuen; siblings, Lorraine Moreau of Methuen, Jane Simone of Methuen, Elaine Wheeler and her husband, Gerald of UT, Dennis Moreau and his wife, Faye of PA, Joan Sousa of Cambridge, and Louise Muise of Washington, D.C.; loving six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In addition, he also leaves several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family, and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, September 19, 2020, from 9:00-11:00 AM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen. Due to the current situation of the Coronavirus pandemic and everyone’s safety, a private funeral service will be held at this time. The family respectfully requests that all attendees follow current Covid-19 guidance, including face coverings and social distancing.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s memory to MSPCA at Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844.
