Joseph Grasso

Joseph A. “Red” Grasso, 97, of Lawrence passed away on August 2, 2017. He was born in Lawrence on September 1, 1919 to the late John and Lucy (Privitera) Grasso.

He attended Holy Rosary School and Holy Rosary Church and was a member of the Holy Name Society. Joseph was a World War II veteran; a corporal in the 121st Cavalry. He saw battle throughout Europe and was honorably discharged October 27, 1945. Joseph was employed by Stop & Shop as a meat manager for many years until his retirement. He was a devoted father, husband, and always put family first.

He is survived by his wife, Rose J. (Nicosia) Grasso; sons, David Grasso of Newburyport, and John and his wife, Mary Ellen Grasso of Hampton NH; grandchildren: Cara Kelley and husband Sean of Hampton, Alyssa McDermott and husband Mark of Beverly, and Johnny Grasso of San Francisco; great-grandchildren: Morgan, Hannah, Nathaniel, and Grayson Kelley, and William McDermott; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

Joseph was predeceased by sisters: Antoinette Razza, Grace LaRochelle, Anne Rossi, Emma Losier; and brothers: John, Peter, and Salvatore.

By the request of the family there will be no visiting hours and services will be private. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to American Training, 6 Campanelli Dr., Andover, MA 01810.
