John A. Kennedy, Jr., 93, of Atkinson, NH passed away Friday, May 3, 2019, at High Pointe House in Haverhill. Born in Lawrence, he was the son of the late John, Sr. and Beatrice Ann (Pinto) Kennedy.
Raised and educated in Lawrence, John enlisted in the US Navy and served on the USS Reno during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart. After his service, he worked for Tombarello & Sons Recycling in Lawrence and then worked as a mail carrier in Methuen for the US Post Office. He retired after thirty-two years of service.
John loved attending Mass at St. Matthew's where he was a member of the community. He was member of the VFW Post of Lawrence, and the VFW Fife and Drum Corp. He also volunteered his time as a Boy Scout leader.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marguerite (Clement) Kennedy; brothers, Norman, Robert and Ronnie Kennedy; and his grandchild, Lydia Pereyra.
John is survived by his children, Robert Kennedy and his wife Paula of SC, Rhonda Gomez of North Andover, John Kennedy, III and his wife Patricia of Salem, NH, Timothy Kennedy of Lawrence, Jud-e Stramaglia and her husband John of Salem, NH, and William Kennedy and his wife Mary Lou of Atkinson, NH. He also leaves thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, May 9, 2019 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen. His funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 10, 2019 at St. Matthew Church, 2 Searles Road in Windham, NH. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to High Pointe House, 360 North Ave., Haverhill, MA 01830.
