John F. “Jack” Hammond, 81, of Methuen, MA, passed away July 28, 2020, at High Pointe House in Haverhill, MA. He was born in Lawrence, MA, the son of the late Frank and Kathleen (Moynihan) Hammond, and later moved to Methuen.
Jack was a 1957 graduate of Tenney High School. Upon graduation from High school he joined the Navy and was a four-year veteran. Jack then worked for thirty-eight years as a lineman for Massachusetts Electric Company. At the same time, he also served as a Methuen Intermittent Police Officer for 25 years. He also was a member of the Methuen American Legion Post 122.
After Jack’s retirement, he worked part-time for General Truck Center for many years.
Jack was a good-hearted man, always willing to help people, whatever their need. He was an avid gardener who was masterful at growing tomatoes, which he generously shared with family and friends. He cared for his yard and gardens with joy and magic.
Along life’s journey, Jack made many life-long friends with whom he shared adventures both in the local area as well as in Florida. He loved fishing and boating and was always happy in or on the water.
Jack will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 57 years, Patricia A. (Akulonis) Hammond; a son, John P. Hammond of England; daughter in law Eileen Joly Hammond of Danvers; his sisters, Eleanore M Harrison of Atkinson, NH and Kathleen M Hammond and her partner Patricia Knox of Atkinson, NH. He was predeceased by his son, Mark G and his two brothers, David and Frankie. Jack also leaves many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, August 2, 2020, from 1:00-4:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen.
