John A. Garozzo
May 22, 1928 ~ November 17, 2023 (age 95) 95 Years Old
John A. Garozzo, 95, of Salem, NH, and formerly of Merrimac, MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, November 17, 2023, at Greystone Farm in Salem, NH. He was the beloved husband of the late Ann E. (Ross) Garozzo with whom he shared nearly 70 years of marriage.
Born in Lawrence, MA, John was the son of the late Alfio and Agata (D’Agata) Garozzo. He was raised in Lawrence and was a graduate of Lawrence High School and Merrimack College. John was employed as a vice president and branch manager for Shawmut Bank and the Arlington Trust Co. for many years and retired in 1991.
He was a resident of Salem, NH, for 30 years before moving to Merrimac, MA, in 1987. John was a parishioner of the Holy Redeemer Parish St. Ann & Nativity where he was a Eucharistic Minister and sang in the choir.
John served with the US Navy from 1946 to 1948, first aboard the USS Randolph as part of the Atlantic Fleet, then stationed at Naval Air Station Key West in Boca Chica, FL, and was honorably discharged as a Seaman. He was a member of the Italian American War Veterans, the American Legion, and the Sons of Italy.
John enjoyed spending time with family, especially his loving wife Ann before her passing. He had a great sense of humor and was always quick with a witty remark, and these memories will be cherished by his children and grandchildren.
Besides his parents and wife, John was predeceased by his brother, Salvatore "Sam" Garozzo.
He is survived by his children, Angela Welch and her husband Joseph of Haverhill, MA, Bruce Garozzo and his wife Marie (Balmelli) of Milford, MA, Elizabeth Kitsos and her husband Peter of Haverhill, MA, and Gina Schladenhauffen and her husband Mark of Westford, MA; ten grandchildren, Erin, Alicia, Michael, Matt, Andrew, Kevin, Jenna, Jake, Zach and Kayla; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org or the Salvation Army, 25 Shawmut Rd. Canton, MA 02021 or at Massachusetts.salvationarmy.org.
