October 11, 1939 ~ May 13, 2020 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Tribute

John L. "Johnny D" DiBenedetto passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2020, after a short battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his wife and two sons at home at the time of his passing. He was the husband of Henni (Henrietta) DiBenedetto, with whom he just celebrated fifty-nine years of marriage.

Born on October 11, 1939, John was the son of John and Ruth (Easton) DiBenedetto of Lawrence, MA. Upon graduation from Lawrence High School, he enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in Newport, RI for two years. He then served aboard the USS Yellowstone in the Mediterranean Sea until his honorable discharge in August of 1960. John held various management positions at Demoulas/Market Basket stores, was a small business owner, and ultimately retired from the City of Lawrence Water Department in 2003. Post retirement, he returned to Market Basket until just a few months ago working in the produce department, always engaging with his customers and never knowing a stranger. John will always be remembered as the life of the party, and a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He was also an avid Red Sox, Patriots, and Bruins fan though not much brought him more joy than he and Henni spoiling his grandchildren.

John is survived by his wife Henni (D'Angelo) DiBenedetto of Lawrence, sons, David DiBenedetto of Lawrence and Chris DiBenedetto and his wife, Kelly of Danville, IN. John had two grandchildren, Katie DiBenedetto and Christopher DiBenedetto, both of Danville, IN. He is also survived by his brother, William DiBenedetto and his wife Lorraine of Salem, NH; sister, Gail Fluet of Salem, NH; his uncle, James DiBenedetto of Lawrence, MA; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Private services for immediate family members will be held in John’s honor. In lieu of calling and/or flowers, donations may be made in honor of John to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Katie’s Hear To Help Foundation, a non-profit organization named for John’s granddaughter, Katie, which provides financial and counseling services to families with hearing impaired children. Donations to Hear to Help can be made in care of Kelly DiBenedetto, 1495 Heather Brooke Lane, Danville, IN, 46122.
