John S. Bigelow

Jack Bigelow, 72, of Andover, MA, passed away on June 9, 2018, surrounded by his family at Edith Nourse Rogers Veterans Hospital in Bedford, MA after battling brain cancer.

Born in Stoneham, MA on April 27, 1946, Jack was the son of William and Agnes (Steeves) Bigelow. He was a graduate of Dracut High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University. He began his career as a computer field engineer at Inforex, then started his own business, New England Computer Supply, Inc., and was most recently employed by W.B. Mason as a sales representative.

Jack proudly served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1968-1970 in the 4th Battalion, 60th Artillery unit. He was awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and two overseas bars.

A member of the Thomas Talbot Masonic Lodge, Jack also volunteered at the Shriners Hospital for Children in Boston for the past ten years. He enjoyed giving back to his community and was a volunteer member of the Spring Grove Cemetery Commission for the past eighteen years and served as chairman for ten years. He served on the golf committee at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Andover, MA where he also enjoyed helping out in the kitchen for pancake breakfasts and various luncheons.

Some of the joys of his life included spending time with his grandchildren, golfing, sailing, trains, and driving around in his 1993 station wagon. He will fondly be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and for his infectious laugh and sense of humor.

Members of his family include his wife of forty-seven years, Bette (Xaros) Bigelow; daughter, Elizabeth Dupont and her husband, Josh; son, John Bigelow and his wife, Elizabeth; and grandchildren, Ryan and Lila.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, June 14, 2018 from 3:00-7:00 pm at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen. His funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, June 15, 2018 in the funeral home chapel. Burial with military honors will take place at Spring Grove Cemetery, Andover, MA following the service.
