Jarvis Bailey, age 73, of Methuen, MA passed peacefully on March 5, 2019 in his home surrounded by his family. Jarvis, affectionately known as J, Jabe, or Papa J was a devoted family man with fierce intelligence and an amazing sense of humor.
The only child of Dove and Kathleen Bailey, Jarvis was born and raised in Goldsboro, NC and at the age of 18 enlisted in the Navy to help support his mother after the loss of his father. The Navy brought him to Florida where he met the love of his life, Linda (Harvel) Bailey. They married at the young age of 19 and shortly after the birth of their first child, Rochelle Bailey Walsh, moved across the world with Raytheon to Saudi Arabia, where their second child, Renée Bailey was born. His travels abroad also took him through Iran and Kuwait. He met many of his lifelong friends through his travels with Raytheon and some of his greatest memories were made during those times.
Jarvis had many interests like music, movies, reading science fiction, but his greatest love was for his family. Jarvis was married to his wife, Linda for fifty-three years and loved her more with each passing year. He deeply loved and was so proud of his two girls and loved his son-in-law as if he was his own son. His grandchildren brought so much light, love, and joy into his life. Whether it was a family vacation, shooting at the gun range with his grandson, watching “Mean Girls” with his granddaughter or visiting his daughter and son-in-law every Friday night for years, there was no place he would have rather been. Jarvis loved life and loved to make you laugh and if he were reading this would probably say, “What you should’ve said was…” just to make you smile.
Jarvis is survived by his wife, Linda Bailey of Methuen, MA; daughter, Rochelle Bailey Walsh and her husband, Gary Walsh of Wilmington, MA; daughter, Renée Bailey of Methuen, MA; granddaughter, Shannon Walsh of North Billerica, MA; grandson, Sean Walsh of Wilmington, MA; niece, Erika Harvel of Los Angeles, CA; his aunt “Sister” of Farmville, NC; and additional extended family in North Carolina.
Services will be held at Cataudella Funeral Home located at 126 Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen, MA on Saturday, March 16, 2019, with calling hours from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and service at 1:00 PM.
