Tribute

James R. Ross, 87, of Lawrence, formerly of Texas, died peacefully November 1, 2020 after a brief illness. Born in Waynesburg, PA, he was the son of the late Robert and Mildred (Johnson) Ross.

Mr. Ross graduated from Trinity High School, Washington, PA and was a graduate of the University of Alabama.  He was an engineer and worked for 40 years at the Raytheon Missile & Systems Division, travelling to places around the world.

After retirement James was continually active volunteering in the City of Lawrence in many capacities. A longtime leader in serving the Prospect Hill/Back Bay Neighborhood Association, supporting Community Policing, spending two days a week at two local schools as part of the Retired School Volunteer Association, engineers and scientists helping middle-schoolers with Math and Science, President of the Friends of the Lawrence Public Library, starting Lawrence Cable Access Television, where he was seen throughout the city wearing his beloved Stetson hat, filming Lawrence events.

Mr. Ross also proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Arlene A. (Genna) Ross and his sisters, Bonnie VanOrden and her husband John of WV and Connie Ross of OH.

By the family request all services were private.  Entombment was in Immaculate Conception Mausoleum in Lawrence. Memorial contributions in his name can be sent to The Friends of the Lawrence Public Library 51 Lawrence Street, Lawrence, MA 01841.
