Tribute

Isidore B. Trovato, fondly known as Izzy, 87, of Methuen, MA, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, June 7, 2022. He is survived by his loving wife, Marion (Khoury) Trovato with whom he shared over 57 years of marriage. He is the father of six children who are his pride and joy: Gina M. Santamaria of Salem, NH, Dr. James A. Trovato and his wife Sandii Mon of Columbia, MD, Susan A. Verrette and her husband Jeffrey of Haverhill, MA, Jo-Ann Cushing and her husband William of Methuen, MA, Jennifer M. Burdick and her husband Stephen of Hudson, NH and Attorney Maria Bonanno and her husband Jonathan of Methuen, MA; sister-in-law, Dr. Joyce Khoury, SND of Lowell, MA; along with thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild; as well as several nieces and nephews. His oldest niece, Mary Trovato Carson, whose birth made him an uncle and later brought forth three grand-nephews to add to his joy: Stephen, Matthew, and David Carson.

Born and raised in Lawrence, MA, Izzy was the son of the late Salvatore Trovato and Maria (Finocchiaro) Trovato and was predeceased by his brother, Mario Trovato; and his sisters, Agnes Patti, and Bertha Contarino. He graduated from Central Catholic High School, Class of 1952, received his B.S. in Pharmacy from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in 1956, and his M.S. degree from Purdue University. As a pharmacist, Izzy’s most notable endeavor was owning and operating Berkeley Pharmacy (a true neighborhood drugstore) in Lawrence, MA with his wife and business partner, Marion, from 1968 until 1988. Berkeley Pharmacy represented a home away from home whereas all who had the pleasure of working there were treated like family.

Izzy’s sociable personality allowed for many friendships to flourish over the years. His love for his family and friends was shown by his acts of kindness. He cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. Izzy’s love for life was even greater the day he became a “Nano.” He was very much involved in his grandchildren’s lives, whether it be attending their sports games, birthday celebrations, school events, and other countless celebrations. He took pride in their accomplishments and would always share valuable life lessons with them.

Izzy loved traveling, fine dining, and long car rides with his wife that included stopping at new or favorite places to eat. He always had a story about his great adventures.

Although we are heartbroken, we are grateful for the love he gave us and the joy he brought us. We will cherish the memories forever in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Central Catholic High School, 300 Hampshire St., Lawrence, MA 01841. To make a donation contact David Erwin at derwin@centralcatholic.net.
