Tribute

Georgia (Anestis) Contos, age 90, passed away July 14, 2018.  She was the wife of the late Christopher H. Contos and daughter of the late Emmanuel and Areti (Stefanidhis) Anestis.  She was born in North Cambridge, attended schools in Watertown and Cambridge, and graduated from Cambridge High and Latin School in 1946. 

She is survived by her two sons, Harris and his wife Dorothy, of W. Yarmouth, MA and Michael and his wife Ethel of Groveland, MA; granddaughters, Christine and her husband Anil Khachane of Orange, CT, Barbara and her husband Donald Pattullo of Newburyport, MA, and Alexis and her husband Todd Grantham of Oakland, CA; her three great-grandsons, Ariston, Adrian, and Ambrose Khachane; great-granddaughter, Millie; great-grandsons, Tucker Pattullo and Fletcher Grantham; her sister, Angela Chingris of Billerica, MA; and her brother, Fred and his wife Janice of Arlington, MA.

Survived also by her nieces and nephews Emmanuel (Manny), wife Lisa, Anestis of Lexington, KY; Diane, husband Chris, Caraviello of Cape Neddick, ME; Nicholas, wife Gretchen, Chingris of Andover, MA; Marc Chingris of Billerica, MA; Ellen, husband Sean, Gillespie, of Lexington, MA; and many great nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother John Anestis and his loving wife Irene, and a great-nephew Cameron Anestis and brother-in-law George Chringris.

She enjoyed following the Boston sports teams, particularly the Red Sox, having attended the first night-baseball game at Braves Field.

During World War II she was employed by Raytheon Manufacturing Co., Tube Division, in Newton, MA as a "spot welder."  After graduation from Cambridge High and Latin School she was employed at Colstone Foods – later known as H.P. Hood & Sons - for several years as a clerk/typist.  Her last employ was at Harvard University where she was employed for thirty-one years in the Purchasing Department, in the administrative offices at the Dental School, and in the Department of Athletics.

She was a founding member and past president of the St. Barbara's Philoptochos Society of St. Athanasius Church, Arlington; a member of Ladies Philoptochos "Myrofori" of Sts. Constantine and Helen Church, Andover; and past treasurer of the Boston diocese Philoptochos.  Also, member of the Northern Epirotico Society of Boston, The Asia-Minor Hellenic American Society, and the Harvard Retirees Association.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Orthodox Christian Mission Center, 220 Mason Manatee Way, St. Augustine, FL 32086 or International Orthodox Christian Center, 110 West Road, Suite 360, Baltimore, MD  21204. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral services at 11:00 am on Friday, July 20, 2018 at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 71 Chandler Rd, Andover. At Georgia’s request, there will be no visiting hours. The family asks that those attending the funeral service to please meet at the church.
